The Incident
Albie was running around at home when his mum noticed fishing line hanging out of his bottom. Now Albie, like most Labradors, eats first and worries about the consequences later.
Poison, putrified carcasses of botulinum toxin, rubber toys, stones, sharp metal foreign bodies………..all satisfy the innate and primal Labrador pleasure centre of the brain, triggered by the smooth muscle contraction of oesophageal peristalsis.
The tail wagging glee of oesophageal action causes stimulation of the medial forebrain bundle and especially the nucleus accumbens lighting up the hedonic hotspots of the neurolimbal system of the Labrador. This Labradorean neural circuitry is something to behold driving them to ingest almost anything that can be chewed and swallowed.
Now back to our handsome hero……..his hedonic hotspot was on fire as usual as he ingested his way from one side of the dog beach to the other. Now one other peculiarity of the Labrador is that they possess a cast iron stomach. Human beings the world over die daily from eating far less toxic ingesta than our family Lab.
Albie’s mum noticed the tell tale signs of nefarious consumption. Albie’s mum knew what was likely to be on the end of this fishing line, since Albie is not a first time martyr of sharp pointed shiny barbed metal found on beaches.
